Our Internet industry lagging behind
I THINK most users have experienced frequent disappointment when surfing the Internet, whether it is for leisure or work.
The problems include frequent disconnections, crawling speed, inability to open certain websites, out of coverage and some other issues..
I wonder why we have to suffer such problems when all we want is a smooth and reliable Internet connection.
Based on my own research and experience, I think the Internet industry in Malaysia is far behind when compared to our closest neighbour Singapore.
Personally speaking, I have tried Umobile Broadband (seven-day trial in mid-2008), Celcom Broadband (still using because of the superb coverage), Maxis Broadband (borrowed from my friends in early 2008), TMNet Streamyx and Amax WiMAX. Most of them fail terribly at my place in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras, except for the latter two, which I pray day and night that their performance stay the same forever.
However, Streamyx is a tad too pricey in my opinion. I say so because Amax WiMAX does have a student price tag of RM60 with a 1mbps download speed. In comparison, Streamyx’s 1mbps combo package cost RM110.
As for P1 WiMAX, the RM49 package is very good only for the basic user because I am pretty sure the bandwidth limit could be easily reached even before the end of the month if the user is a loyal YouTube visitor.
See my point here? There are just too many things to consider before subscribing: the fair usage policy, price, contracts, coverage and so on.
I wish everything could be much simpler instead of having to think about all of these tiny-yet-important details all day and night before deciding which one to go for.
