Karnival IKTIRAF in UiTM Shah Alam

Various activities have been lined up for a carnival to appreciate the efforts of Felda community members in assisting the government in developing the country.

Karnival Ikatan Hati Warga Felda (Iktiraf) 2009 will be held at the marching ground of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Shah Alam on Dec 18-20. It will see the largest gathering of the Felda community at a single location.

Some 8,000 people, including the settlers' children, are expected to attend the carnival, organised by Seranta Felda (a unit in the Prime Minister's Department) and Felda with the cooperation of UiTM and Felda Youth Council Malaysia (MBFM).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is scheduled to officiate the carnival on Dec 20.

The gathering will be an opportunity to collect a database of Felda members living in the various land schemes and urban areas.

The carnival will also include the participation of students from public institutions of higher learning, athletes from Felda schemes and members of MBFM.

In conjunction with the carnival, winners of the Felda Malaysia Youth Award (ABFM) for associations and individuals in land schemes will also be announced.

The ABFM, in its fourth edition since it was introduced in 2006, recognises the younger generation's excellence and their contribution to the country's national development.

For associations, the ABFM champion will walk away with a cash prize of RM7,000 for activity assistance, a trophy and a study visit programme. The runner-up will receive a cash prize of RM5,000 a trophy and a study visit programme; and the second runner-up will receive a cash prize of RM3,000, a trophy and a study visit programme.

Another six categories of winners who will receive a RM3,000, trophy and appreciation certificate each are for associations that have achieved excellence in administration and management; education and skills; sports and culture; economic development; community service and volunteerism; and eradication of social ills.

Seven other awards for individuals will also be be given away.

Three individual winners will take home a cash prize of RM4,000 for best Felda youth leadership (male), best Felda youth leadership (female) as well as two separate awards for distinguished Felda new generation figures.

In addition, four other awards worth RM1,500 each will also be given away to the best Felda youth entrepreneur, best Felda youth in education, and Felda youth special award.

In conjunction with the carnival, a convention will also be held involving undergraduates from 20 local universities.

The three-day carnival, with as many as 200 booths, is expected to draw some 20,000 visitors.
